I want to ask you one of the most important questions I ask all of the clients I coach when they first get started with my program.
What have you done for yourself lately?
Typically, when we engage in relaxing activities, they tend to benefit us alone, but many of us have developed a selfish complex in our society, which means that we’re afraid to do anything for ourselves in fear of appearing selfish to others. This makes it very difficult to grant ourselves permission to take a load off once in a while.
Many of us are afraid to take a day off of work, ask our spouse or family members to look after our children while we do something for ourselves or even give ourselves five minutes of solitude in a day so we can recharge our batteries. We seem to be afraid even to turn our phones off for fear that we may miss a beat of somebody else’s life or their demands for us in their lives.
Either we take the pail ourselves and start refilling our well or the well will run dry. We need to reclaim some of our time so we can have time to relax. Our success in life is dependent on it.
It may appear that some people don’t have to focus on it as much as you, but in most cases, that’s only because they’ve already done the work that I hope you will begin to do after reading my book.
If you know anyone that seems to always be calm, cool and collective, it’s because they’re relaxed – and that’s because they take time for themselves to do the things that are important to them.
Those things might not be important to everyone else including their children, spouse, and boss, but they understand if they don’t take that time to relax and do something for themselves, they won’t be able to serve these people to their fullest ability.
When you can’t serve people that matter the most to your level of expectation, you will begin to feel guilty. It’s at this point that you won’t look relaxed anymore.
As I have said before, take back some time, create some space, cultivate some energy, so you can inspire to aspire!
Inspire to aspire,
KJ Simpson
